Nigeria U17 thrash Dakinda in friendly for Afcon qualifiers

Manu Garba’s side stepped up their preparations for next month’s qualifiers with another warm-up victory in Abuja.

Nigeria U17 team hammered Dakinda FC 11-2 in a friendly match as they prepare for next month’s U17 West African Football Union Championship in Abuja on Saturday.

The Golden Eaglets will compete alongside seven nations in the WAFU Zone B finals in Niger in September and must edge past them to secure the sole ticket for next year’s event in Tanzania.

Manu Garba’s lads have been in camp since May in Abuja, preparing for the zonal finals, with the win over the FCT based side their latest.

Four goals from Kunle Oluwasegun, Akin Amoo’s hat-trick plus Aliyu Ibrahim’s brace ensured the U17 side maintained their unbeaten run in all friendlies played so far.

They are drawn against Benin Republic, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire in Group A, while Group B have host Niger Republic, Ghana, and Togo from September 3-15, 2018.

Having missed the last edition in Gabon, Nigeria will be hoping to qualify for the finals in Tanzania from May 12-26, 2019 which will serve as the qualifier for the U17 World Cup billed for Peru.
