Evans: Maguire good enough for Man Utd or any top club

The former Red Devils defender believes his Leicester team-mate is destined to one day complete a big-money move to a leading Premier League side

Harry Maguire is good enough to play for Manchester United or “any top club”, says Leicester team-mate Jonny Evans.

The England international centre-half was heavily linked with a big-money move to Old Trafford as the Premier League transfer window ran down.

No deal was done before the deadline passed, with Jose Mourinho left frustrated in his efforts to bolster his back line – with a 3-2 defeat at Brighton on Sunday highlighting why he was so keen to get extra bodies on board.

Evans said of a man who was valued by Leicester at £65 million ($83m) as interest in his services mounted: “I think he’s got the lot.

“Physically he’s got it and he’s good with the ball. His technique is fantastic and I think he proved that throughout the World Cup.

“He has great ability and he’s very composed. I’m looking forward to playing alongside him – if I get the nod.  I’m certainly looking forward to see him playing more often.

“I think if he went to any top club he would fit in no problem. There’s no reason why he couldn’t play for Manchester United. He’s got the ability to do it.

“In the few days I’ve seen him since he’s been back, he’s obviously an outstanding player.

“It’s great that we’ve got players like that at the club so we can all push each other on.”

Maguire and Evans helped Leicester to their first clean sheet of the season on Saturday as the Foxes – who had Jamie Vardy sent off – saw off Midlands rivals Wolves 2-0.

Prior to that, Maguire and Wes Morgan had been breached two times on the opening weekend as a 2-1 reversal was suffered at the hands of Manchester United.
